Advice for the public

What does BOADICEA do?

BOADICEA calculates the risks of breast and ovarian cancer in women with a family history of either or both of these cancers. It also calculates the probability that they have inherited a cancer-associated mutation in the BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene.

Investigating your family history

We are committed to providing unrestricted access to BOADICEA. As a result, anyone can register to use the program including members of the public. However, if you are a member of the public and you are concerned about your family history, we advise that you seek guidance first from your general practitioner (GP) or a local cancer specialist. Your GP may refer you to a regional clinical genetics centre. Healthcare professionals based in these departments specialise in genetic risk assessment and counselling, and they can help you to interpret your results and provide advice about genetic testing.
