Dr Victoria Keevil

Victoria is a trainee in medicine for older people and has completed part of her specialist clinical training in this field.  She is currently studying for a PhD and is interested in understanding more about the physiology of ageing and the processes underlying the decline in physical function with advancing age.

During the 3HC a battery of physical performance tests and hand grip strength, a marker of general muscle strength, were measured.  These measurements, combined with the existing wealth of information on the health and wellbeing of EPIC participants, will allow exploration of the nutritional and lifestyle factors which influence muscle strength and physical performance in later life.  A particular focus will be the role of past and current physical activity.

She hopes that this work will increase our understanding of the underlying physiology and ageing and offer some insights into potential therapeutic options to maintain health and independent function in later life.
