Karen qualified in adult nursing at Oxford Brookes University in 2004. She was previously a Cordon Bleu Cook travelling the country cooking in shooting and fishing lodges and pandering to the culinary needs of business men and bankers in London. A major change was required in 2001 and nursing fitted the bill! This is when she began her training and new life in nursing.
Karen worked in Northern Ireland for her first 2 years after qualifying, at the Belfast hospitals of Ulster and the Royal Victoria. Originally a Norfolk girl, in 2005 she decided it was time to return to Norwich and settle down. Initially she worked at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in the acute setting primarily in surgery and critical care. In 2007 she discovered EPIC and began working there to cover for a shortfall in nurses but found she didn’t want to leave and so applied for a permanent position. 2 years on she is still enjoying her role and hopes to remain in place to see out the third health check and hopefully see in the 4th!
Her hobbies include travelling to sunnier climes, running, playing the saxophone, scuba diving and pandering to her 2 little Cavalier King Charles Spaniels!
