The
EPIC cohort in Spain consists of over 40,000 men and women.
EPIC in Spain is co-ordinated from five centres:
the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) in Barcelona, the Andalusian
School of Public Health in Granada, the Council for Health and Social
Affairs of Asturia in Oviedo, the Health Administration of Guipuzcoa
in San Sebastian, the Council for Health and Social Affairs of Murcia
and the Institute of Public Health at the Regional Government of
Navarre, in Pamplona.
The age of the participants at recruitment varied
from centre to centre, but was generally in the region of 35-65.
The centres drew their participants from different sources:
Oviedo, Asturias region: blood donors, regional
civil servants and the general population.
Granada province: blood donors and the general
population (recruited through census and health centres).
Murcia autonomous community: blood donors
and their partners (67% of cohort), general population of two towns
(23%), civil servants (5%), employees of two enterprises (3%) and
participants of a cardiovascular risk study (2%).
Pamplona city and Navarre region: blood donors
and the general population.
San Sebastian city and Gipuzkoa province:
blood donors and employees of selected enterprises (recruited through
census of selected municipalities). |
