Consented to join study and completed 24-hour diet recall and health and lifestyle questionnaire 30,000 people
Completed first health check: food frequency questionnaire; height, weight, waist, hip and chest measurements; readings of blood pressure and lung capacity; blood and urine samples; first 7-day food diary 25,639 people
9-12 months Calibration study on sample of participants: computerised 24-hour diet recollection; weight and height measurements; 24-hour urine collections 600 people
18 months Postal follow-up: second 7-day food diary; first heath follow-up questionnaire 21,000 people
3 years Completed second health check: second follow-up health questionnaire; second 24-hour diet recall; height, weight, waist, hip and chest measurements; readings of blood pressure and lung capacity; blood and urine samples; third 7-day food diary; heel ultrasound; body fat measurement; food frequency questionnaire 16,000 people

13 years Third Health Check: follow-up health questionnaire; food frequency questionnaire 7-day food diary; height, weight, waist, hip and chest measurements; readings of blood pressure and lung capacity; repeat analysis of blood including blood lipid profile, glycated haemoglobin, plasma vitamin C, and DNA extraction for future genetic analysis; heel ultrasound; body fat measurement; Assessment of physical and cognitive performance and in depth measure of visual health and optic nerve imaging. 8,623 people
20 years Fourth Health Check: follow-up health questionnaire; health related quality of life questionnaire; height; weight; waist and hip measurements; readings of lung capacity and grip strength; assessment of physical performance including balance and gait speed measures; 7 day location based physical activity monitoring; body composition and bone density measures using DEXA scan 5693 people
